Entre debates the role of microcredit in development at Brazil Journal event
Antonio Freixo, founder and CEO of the Group, was one of the panelists invited to address the issue, alongside executives from BNB and Itaú
The founder and CEO of Grupo Entre, Antonio Freixo, Mineiro, was one of the participants in the second panel of this year's edition of the event The Northeast is a Brazil, held by Brazil Journal in the second half of October in Salvador, Bahia. The topic under discussion was the role of credit and microcredit in development.
Alongside Wanger Rocha, the new president of BNB, and Alexandre Borin, director of Itaú, Antonio Carlos Freixo Junior presented his vision of how public and private banks can contribute to expanding the granting of microcredit in the Northeast.
One point of convergence among the panelists was the perception that support from the federal government is important for democratizing access to financial resources in Brazil. But it cannot be the market's only source. It is important that the private sector does its part, especially by using technology to offer more accessible solutions.
"Our idea has always been to reach the public in an efficient way and spread microcredit cheaply, to democratize it," said the CEO of Grupo Entre, whose ecosystem includes EntrePay, an acquiring company that is a BNB partner in the region. "When you put technology inside a card machine, you can turn Seu Manoel, from the grocery store, into a point of access to microcredit," he said.
